The Last Days Of Jesus DVD-based Bible Study - Deeper Connections Series

My Sunday bible study group is using the Deeper Connections study of the Miracles of Jesus. I am familiar with the series so I was eager to preview the Last Days of Jesus. The host Margaret Feinburg did a good job of setting up the sessions. I enjoy seeing the land of Israel, Caesarea Philippi, and the Kidron Valley and learning facts about the restoration of the Jewish cemetery. Jews buried face up with feet pointed toward Jerusalem. Varying filming sites makes the teaching more interesting.
Dr. Matt Williams teaching from “Warrior to Servant” is filmed at Vulture gold mine outside Phoenix, Arizona. His teaching of Peter’s rebuke and later presence on the Mount of Transfiguration offers all of us hope for forgiveness and helps us to realize our earthly wealth can be stolen at any moment. Dr. Mark Strause reporting from a horse ranch focuses on three important events: Triumphal Entrance- shows us fulfillment of prophecy and explanation of why Jesus arrived on a donkey; Cleansing of the temple: act of judgment on the temple and Israel prediction of destruction of the temple; Cursing of the fig tree symbolizes unfruitfulness of Israel. Application lessons are insightful.
Dr. Gary Burge ‘s begins the study of the Resurrection by showing a beautiful mausoleum empty because the bones of this wealthy family was moved from this Chicago cemetery to one outside Wrigley field. The early church did not worship or make a shrine of the place where Jesus was buried because Christ defeated death. Last year I taught a 30 week bible study on the book of Matthew. I can testify that the information was accurate and interesting. Thank you Rose Publishing for this free material to review.

Unloved and rejected at home Rose agrees to leave home for Forest Hill help a young family care for the children and pregnant wife. When the wife dies it would not be proper for Rose to stay. Super Sized Book of Bible Crafts

My home church is very small-less than 30 in Sunday School. Lacking a large budget we had to drop our subscription for the children’s material. This book has a wealth of material for ages 5-10 to develop crafts for Children Church and Sunday School and even Vacation Bible School. The crafts are linked to well-known Bible Stories that are loved by adults and children. With Thanksgiving approaching the lesson on Abundant Blessings using the Hanging Horn of Plenty craft has saved the day. A darling turkey teaches the children to be thankful in another lesson. Jonah's fish and Daniel are favorites as well. A one page bible story can be shortened or embellished depending on the age of the children. In-depth directions for creation of the games or crafts accompany a pattern that can be duplicated for each child. A cute frog with lily pads help children remember the plagues God sent to Pharaoh. Each story has a short bible verse for the children to carry home and share with their parents. Over 250 wonderful pages to teach lessons throughout the year make this a wise investment for your church. I was given the PDF of this book for my honest review.

52 Week Devotionals for Busy Families

This devotional was very intriguing to me because my daughter’s family is fostering two children. With two boys of their own they could use the flexibility to work around their busy schedules. The colorful border down the side or across the bottom of the pages will be inviting for the kids to look at during the devotional time. The multicultural children on the pages are important since one of the girls is bi-racial. It will comfort to have different races represented in the book. The memory verses are adaptable and can be shortened for the younger child. My favorite is the scrapbook and journaling options. Plenty of chat prompts can promote conversations among the family members. The bible story connection lasts only two minutes but it brings in biblical truths that are important for today’s youth. It was insightful of the author to include a read aloud story concerning children with food allergies. My niece’s child is usually forgotten because parents bring party items that she cannot eat. It can be hurtful to be left out. This book has fifty-two weeks of devotions suited to holidays and seasons. It is not necessary to wait until New Year’s Day to start the book. Just count the weeks of the calendar and jump right in. A free PDF of this book was provided by Rose Publishing for my honest review.

Newton and Polly

I had seen the movie Amazing Grace and I was anxious to read the book Newton and Polly. I was not prepared for the shocking revelations of the wretched life John Newton had lived. Polly was truly the best thing that ever happened to him and probably the primary motivator to change. God did a work in his life and changed his life.

Pop Spirituality And The Truth: The Real Secret of A New Earth - Pamphlet

Pop Spirituality And The Truth: The Real Secret of A New Earth - Pamphlet

Since the invention of the World Wide Web, all reason and Truth has been compromised. Anyone, myself included, can post a blog, write a eBook, and declare theories, ideas, and spirituality. The fact that supposedly learned people would buy, read, or acknowledge this false doctrine is not only sad, but potentially dangerous to their souls. In the pamphlet Pop Spirituality And The Truth: The Real Secret of A New Earth –Timothy Paul Jones cuts through the illusions and delivers a side by side comparison of the teachings of Jesus versus Tolle, Chopra and the Secret. I really appreciate this pamphlet so I can spare myself countless hours of futile studying of a false religion. Nicely done debunking of the pop spirituality. The charts are colorful and easy to read and compare. They say that the best way to spot a counterfeit is by studying the original. The Bible is easily the most widely distributed and read book of all time. Jones makes an excellent case for the truth of the bible. Saffire

It took me forever to finish this book. Not a history buff, the novel did not immediately hook me. I enjoyed the look at the construction of the canal. I had no idea the number of lives that were lost while building this modern miracle. The main character was quite intriquing and a bit rough and gritty.

The Messiah in the Feasts of Israel

It never ceases to amaze me that God provides resources for my Bible teaching exactly when I need them. This week as I studied 1 Corinthians 5 about immorality in the church, verses 7 talked about cleansing out the old leaven & v.8 “For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.” This is the Ransom of the Soul. It made me pause in my studying and research unleavened bread. The Messiah in the Feasts of Israel by Dr.Samuel Nadler does a wonderful job explaining the Messianic Passover Feast. I had never heard Matza called “the bread of haste.” The process of
removing leaven from the home was performed by the head of the home at the beginning the Jewish Seder. But for believers the removal of leaven is more about the cleansing of the heart. This is the Removal of Sin. Paul used this lesson to chastise the prideful Corinthian believers. I will definitely use Dr. Nadler as a resource for my lecture this week. Thank you Rose Publishing for the PDF of this resource for my honest opinion.

The Self Guided Tour of the Bible

The Self Guided Tour of the Bible is one of the best resources I have reviewed for studying the whole Bible. Even someone who is new to the scriptures will find this book easy to use. The author cleverly adapts a gridlike map used in museums to lay out exhibit halls guiding you through the topics. Each book of the bible has the answers to who, what, when and where. Key characters in the bible are highlighted by dates and the book where they can be found. There are many colorful charts-compare prophets or parables of Jesus or miracles of Jesus. Genres of books are discussed and a guide given on how to read different books. Full color photographs, timelines, and relevant maps are wonderful and very useful to the scholar as well as the novice. Twelve pages of a very detailed index make it excellent to pinpoint the facts for which students may be researching. This resource could be used in bible study classrooms of all ages. The Lord's Supper

This pamphlet explaining the Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion was very interesting to me. Being exposed to the observance in the Baptist church I thought it to be a form of worship and recognition of Christ’s Sacrifice for me. The pamphlet explains how this sacrament or ordinance was used in the early church and how it has changed through the ages. It gives five different names for the act referencing scripture. A friend of mine performs the communion every day. When we did the sacrament every week, rushing through it I felt it was merely an action without proper reverence. Even in the church I attend the pastor leaves out a very important part: the confession of sin. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 11:29 “For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.” We don’t approach The Lord’s Supper with enough reverence and regard it as a holy ordinance. Lovely colored charts explained the Sacrament view and the Ordinance view showing the role of The Holy Spirit in the Lord’s Supper. Transubstantiation and Consubstantiation were new terms for me. Arguments from Martin Luther, Calvin, and various denominations question the actual presence of Christ at the supper. It was enlightening to learn the difference in viewpoints of so many church fathers and the diverse thoughts by various churches today.
