After reviewing 5 of June Hunt’s pamphlets, this is the first
time I have not agreed wholeheartedly with her assessment. “Perfectionism”
seemed to veer into the psychological realm of OCD and even shares the Three-Pronged Treatment for OCD from www.webmd.com. I will admit that I have a bit
of the “Martha, Martha complex,” motivated to please by serving instead of
sitting at Jesus’ feet. The checklist on page 30 did point out that I have
pockets of perfectionism. However, the chart comparing the Perfection and
Excellence indicated that I desire excellence in my ministry and my coworkers.
The overstated reasoning that parents are very much to blame comes in the
illustration depicting the rearing of John Quincy Adams pp.44-57. As a parent I
do understand our extreme expectations can bring distress and fear of failure
in the lives of our children, but in my opinion Hunt has overused secular
resources to supply much of the conclusions. The chart on page 69-70 to target
tendencies toward perfectionism is oversimplified. Some of my homeless clients
who have no high personal standards could easily answer YES to every question.

The Parable of the Prodigal Son pamphlet
Most Christians are familiar with the parables of Jesus and the favorite is of the Prodigal, an ungrateful son who demands his inheritance before his father dies. Of course the son wastes all the money on fair weather friends. The explanation of the returning rebel and the unexpected welcome he receives from his father parallels the mercy and grace seen in Father God’s response to Israel's disobedience. The author’s explanation of the elder brother was on target. At present I am personally dealing with a situation with the child who stayed. We have relationship issues stemming resentment and hurt feelings. This is a useful tool with questions to ponder. The five prayers for those who wait are excellent. They would be very useful to parents who are hurting. The Prodigal PDF file was very difficult to read. When I tried to print it was very complicated and was not acceptable. I suggest you purchase the pamphlet. Thank you Rose Publishing for providing with this PDF file for me to review.
