This pamphlet explaining the Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion was
very interesting to me. Being exposed to the observance in the Baptist church I
thought it to be a form of worship and recognition of Christ’s Sacrifice for
me. The pamphlet explains how this sacrament or ordinance was used in the early
church and how it has changed through the ages. It gives five different names
for the act referencing scripture. A friend of mine performs the communion
every day. When we did the sacrament every week, rushing through it I felt it
was merely an action without proper reverence. Even in the church I attend the
pastor leaves out a very important part: the confession of sin. Paul reminds us
in 1 Corinthians 11:29 “For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the
body eats and drinks judgment on himself.” We don’t approach The Lord’s Supper
with enough reverence and regard it as a holy ordinance. Lovely colored charts
explained the Sacrament view and the Ordinance view showing the role of The
Holy Spirit in the Lord’s Supper. Transubstantiation and Consubstantiation were
new terms for me. Arguments from Martin Luther, Calvin, and various
denominations question the actual presence of Christ at the supper. It was enlightening
to learn the difference in viewpoints of so many church fathers and the diverse
thoughts by various churches today. This pdf was provided freely by Rose
Publishing for my unbiased opinion.
